pop ups
these are random hearts i've seen lately. i had been upset about a couple of things recently, and its always a surprise to see these suddenly when i'm deep in thought worrying or stressing out. it jars me out of my stream of consciousness, which is a good thing, it helps me see the bigger picture.

scents
scents always take me back to points in time, or places, and bring back happy memories. i am a bit of a scent junkie. i have a whole dresser top full of them, and i rarely wear the same scent two days in a row.
my most recent scent purchase was jo malone's grapefruit cologne and lime basil & mandarin cologne which i wear paired together. the result is a fresh clean soapy modern scent, i love it. it's perfect for the up coming steamy muggy new york summer.
well, today i was at barney's, when i found myself in their basement which houses all the make up and perfume. DANGER.
i found my next scent, le labo's jasmin 17.
it reminds me of growing up in my parents house back in california. they have jasmine vines on the fence right by my bedroom window, and orange trees in the backyard. childhood memories aside, i love this scent because its so feminine and soft. its not very strong, so i can't help but sniff my wrists over and over again. the longer i wear it the warmer and softer it gets, at the moment its this pretty floral sweet vanilla scent.
jasmin 17 notes:
-neroli
-orange flower !!!!!
-palma rosa
-bigarade
-amber
-musk
-sandal wood !!!!
-vanilla !!!!!!
i'm waiting with bated breath for september to come. september is when tom ford is launching his line of white musks. there will be four in total, one of which will be a jasmine musk. i cannot wait, i love tom fords fragrances. they are always very sensuous, fleshy, rich, and opulent. it will be interesting to see what he considers "simple, fresh, light and a little less heavy."
read more here.
ps. my brithday is in early august, i wouldn't object if you insisted on getting me perfume as a gift! just an fyi.

rainy day, rainy heart
heading out to lunch, floor outide my office, nyc 06.18.09
they've been remodeling the bathrooms at work for a while, so they've put down some kind of particle board. its also been very rainy, so there are water droplets all over the floors. this happens to be a water spot that got absorbed into the board. i noticed it while i was heading out to grab a quick lunch.
marilyn minter
this is a bit tardy to blog about since i saw this exhibit more than a month ago, and its since closed. but i still wanted to share some work that i thought was really interesting. i had read about marilyn minter before i happened to stumble across the gallery where she was showing. i was set to have brunch at freemans and got there a bit early and decided to look around when i recognized her work through the window of Salon 94.
i was ecstatic! i had been meaning to come by and see her work. i think its beautiful, sexy, and dirty. i was mesmerized by this clip, it sums up her work perfectly.
hope you enjoy.

good morning heartache
lipstick shade heartbreak, nyc 05.09
this is a random shade of lipstick i bought on impulse at the drugstore in one of my latest boughts of retail therapy. i didn't realize what the shade was called until a couple of days later. it sums up what i was feeling at the time quite perfectly though.
this song was on my mind the weekend i bought the lipstick. it's fitting for the rainy weather we've been having lately and my melancholy moods.

perfect day in nyc
june 7th, i went to meet my friend ana for the paella parade at south street sea port. it was a beautiful day in manhattan. it started out a little rocky, the paella parade was chaos under a tent. but all in all it was a fantastic day. one of the type of days that make me so happy i live in new york city. oh! and i finally found the shade of saffron yellow bed sheets that i've been hunting a year for!
after the pealla parade, we decided to walk the brooklyn bridge to meet carmen in dumbo and get a ice cream cone at jacques torres. i saw hearts everywhere.
i came home and relaxed in my peaceful apartment and even had the moment to call my best friend jen to wish her a happy birthday. happy birthday jen! i love you.

one of my first loves
one of my first loves in the fashion world was galliano, and although i can't say that i love his work with the same 'school girl's fantasy gusto' as i did when i was younger, he will always remain one of my favorites in his ability to reinvent and create such frothy yet dark images. his work just oozes sinful twisted coy sex.
ps. this makes me miss working on fashion shoots SO DAMN MUCH.

lips to die for...oh and a heart.
une vieille maitresse, or in english, The Last Mistress was playing at the ifc center late year and i decided to check it out because the plot seemed interesting and i had been reading about it's controversial director catherine breillat. it's story of a spanish lady and her young french lover and their tumultuous love affair set in 19th century france. the story line is hot (talk about f'ed up passion and addiction), but what stole the show for me were the visuals, specifically Fu'ad Ait Aattou the male lead. see below.
asia argento as vellini, heart hair
how beautiful is he? especially in the cavalli ad?
gorgeous men + fantastic suits = me + drool + swoon
if you think that his pictures are enough to make you swoon, think about seeing his lovely face on a 20 foot movie screen. if you aren't lucky enough to find a showing in your local theater, i'll give you the next best thing. the trailer, see him in action below in all his beautiful french glory.ps. ignore the really horrible fake breasts

arnhem mode biennale, netherlands
i wish i had the type of life that would allow me to go flitting off to the netherlands at the drop of a hat to go see the arnhem mode biennale if i so desired. alas, i do not, so i have to be satisfied with reading and seeing the exhibit through other people eyes. i was going through some online articles on the biennale and i found this picture. i think its amazing. such a perfect way to showcase the detail work of the blouse. plus, i can see hearts in it.

puppy love
the way to the heart is through the stomach
my lovely friend ana sofia has been collecting some hearts from around brooklyn for me. i think these are fantastic! she has such a good eye for them, better than mine in my opinion. if you look at the heart album picture, you can see ana's reflection in the glass.
ana is a foodie so its only fitting that she sees hearts in her food. check out her food blog here:
she writes about her food experiences all around nyc and miami, and as an added bonus she provides recipes! she inspires me to cook and explore (and run, but thats another story). i love her.

my head in the clouds
for about the last two months my head has been in the clouds in a whirlwind romance. i think i 've come back down to earth now. here are a few heart sightings that i managed to have the conscious to record. xo
monika's chip, fort greene brooklyn nyc, 05.17.09
my friend monika had a bbq to ring in the summer. as the party was winding down, she was relaxing and eating a chip, when i looked up at her and stopped her from eating this heart.
@ ali & jerry's wedding rehearsal, La Luz Ranch AZ 05.07.09
i recently flew to nogales arizona for my best friend ali and jerry's wedding. i was a bridesmaid. i had such a blast, but the trip kicked my ass. flights got delayed then canceled, i was sick, woke up with pink eye, broke out in hives, had a series of bloody noses, and was having an argument with someone in ny. i was physically and mentally exhausted. as i was walking around during the rehearsal at the ranch (which was SO beautiful) and i looked down to see this one. it calmed me a bit.
