pop ups
these are random hearts i've seen lately. i had been upset about a couple of things recently, and its always a surprise to see these suddenly when i'm deep in thought worrying or stressing out. it jars me out of my stream of consciousness, which is a good thing, it helps me see the bigger picture.

marilyn minter
this is a bit tardy to blog about since i saw this exhibit more than a month ago, and its since closed. but i still wanted to share some work that i thought was really interesting. i had read about marilyn minter before i happened to stumble across the gallery where she was showing. i was set to have brunch at freemans and got there a bit early and decided to look around when i recognized her work through the window of Salon 94.
i was ecstatic! i had been meaning to come by and see her work. i think its beautiful, sexy, and dirty. i was mesmerized by this clip, it sums up her work perfectly.
hope you enjoy.

good morning heartache
lipstick shade heartbreak, nyc 05.09this is a random shade of lipstick i bought on impulse at the drugstore in one of my latest boughts of retail therapy. i didn't realize what the shade was called until a couple of days later. it sums up what i was feeling at the time quite perfectly though.
this song was on my mind the weekend i bought the lipstick. it's fitting for the rainy weather we've been having lately and my melancholy moods.

arnhem mode biennale, netherlands
i wish i had the type of life that would allow me to go flitting off to the netherlands at the drop of a hat to go see the arnhem mode biennale if i so desired. alas, i do not, so i have to be satisfied with reading and seeing the exhibit through other people eyes. i was going through some online articles on the biennale and i found this picture. i think its amazing. such a perfect way to showcase the detail work of the blouse. plus, i can see hearts in it.

arts and hearts
today i visited the MOMA to check out some of the exihibits. here are some of my favorite pieces that were permitted to be photographed. my favorite exhibit was tangled alphabets: leon ferrari and mira schendel but photography was not permitted. the architecture and landscapes collection (of which i have a few pictures, yay!), and the paper: pressed, stained, slashed and folded are both definantly worth checking out as well.
oh, and of course i saw a heart in my lunch.

doesn't it look like he's checking out those ladies in front of the warhol?

yayoi kusama
tonight ryan and i went to the gagosian gallery in chelsea to see the yayoi kusama opening. i really didn't know much about her and didn't know what to expect but i was pleasantly blown away by one of her works. unfortunately, i'm not sure what it is titled.

yayoi kusama, gagosian gallery, nyc 04.16.09this picture does not hold a candle to the experience of viewing the work. the installation is a room covered in mirrors on all sides, with a small platform in the center. the platform is surrounded by still water acting as another reflective surface. all around the room there are small suspended lights that flicker and dim. there is an attendant that lets you in for a minute, the door is closed behind you and you are left feeling as if you were floating in outer space.
i felt an overwhelming sense of calm and delight. it was WONDERFUL, i wish i could move my bed into that room and fall asleep to that experience every night. it was painfully/achingly beautiful.

hey honey honey

if you live in the nyc area, please take a moment and sign this petition to support beekeeping in nyc.
legalizing beekeeping in nyc would help support localized and sustainable honey in our area, in other words, you could buy honey from your area at the local farmer's market! how cool is that?
