x marks the spot

today i noticed that i have a bruise in the shape of a heart, on the left side of my chest, exactly where my heart would be. i find this kind of funny, and i wish i could share a picture of it with you, but since it would essentially be a picture of my left breast, i will refrain.

playing catch up

i've been slacking in the blogging department but i haven't been slacking in the documenting department! here are a few to play catch up.

on the way home, on 8th ave, 04.23.09

i was having a good day. had a good lunch date, and was taking the long way home because the weather was so nice.

in my turkish coffee after dinner with eric and david, hell's kitchen, 04.26.09

i was having a lovely dinner with eric and david. afterwards, eric ordered some turkish coffee, i was about to drink some. then i got a goofy grin on my face when i saw the heart. eric and david looked at me strangely when i whipped out my camera. i didn't really want to explain why i was taking a picture of coffee.

in my singha beer, west village nyc, 04.28.09

i was out to dinner with some of my friends after seeing a fantastic show. i smiled my goofy smile into my beer and the girls knew exactly what was going on. they know me so well.

jody's plant, willamsburg ny, 05.01.09

i saw this at jody's place. she had invited me over for dinner and was cooking in the kitchen so her boyfriend frank and i were talking when i stopped the conversation and ran over to take a picture. he said "jody, you friend is weird, she's taking pictures of the bookcase!" to which jody replied "yeah she's weird, why do you think she's my friend?"

walking out of r, t, and p's apartment. they aren't exactly perfectly shapped but i think they read as hearts anyway.

arts and hearts

today i visited the MOMA to check out some of the exihibits. here are some of my favorite pieces that were permitted to be photographed. my favorite exhibit was tangled alphabets: leon ferrari and mira schendel but photography was not permitted. the architecture and landscapes collection (of which i have a few pictures, yay!), and the paper: pressed, stained, slashed and folded are both definantly worth checking out as well.
oh, and of course i saw a heart in my lunch.

yayoi kusama

tonight ryan and i went to the gagosian gallery in chelsea to see the yayoi kusama opening. i really didn't know much about her and didn't know what to expect but i was pleasantly blown away by one of her works. unfortunately, i'm not sure what it is titled.

this picture does not hold a candle to the experience of viewing the work. the installation is a room covered in mirrors on all sides, with a small platform in the center. the platform is surrounded by still water acting as another reflective surface. all around the room there are small suspended lights that flicker and dim. there is an attendant that lets you in for a minute, the door is closed behind you and you are left feeling as if you were floating in outer space.
i felt an overwhelming sense of calm and delight. it was WONDERFUL, i wish i could move my bed into that room and fall asleep to that experience every night. it was painfully/achingly beautiful.

baked love

in the banana bread i baked, 04.15.09

over the weekend while i was in philly, oanh and i had a cooking session on sunday afternoon (it was bliss, cooking with a good friend, good music, beautiful sunday afternoon). i didn't have time to eat the bread so i brought it home and tonight i cut a slice to enjoy and as i was nearing the end of my slice, guess what i saw? <3

ps. i finally bought a camera!

(one, two, or three?)

i think i've gotten arlene seeing hearts too. the first two we saw together. the next three are from her recent trip to washington d.c. over the easter long weekend, and the last is at her friend anna's place. i think the second picture is going to be one of my favorites.
